Chef Tranisha Rene Dangerfield-Miller.
Tranisha Rene Dangerfield-Miller passed on July 9th. It is difficult to imagine a Chefs de Cuisine (CDC) meeting without her voice, her energy, or her indomitable spirit.
She possessed a drive and a passion – not for just cooking, but for moving forward, overcoming obstacles, giving back to the community around her and for being unfazed by adversity.
She first joined the Chefs de Cuisine family as a student in the Continuing Education culinary arts program of the San Diego Community College District. She became a CDC student member, frequented CDC meetings, and volunteered for CDC-sponsored community events.
After graduation, she was elected to the board of directors of the CDC Association and became a coordinator in the after school healthy eating classes sponsored by the CDC Education Foundation.
Nisha was a force. She had strong opinions, spoke her mind, maintained a vital entrepreneurial spirit and a forthright manner that could catch unsuspecting listeners off guard and warm the hearts of those who knew her true inner kindness.
She started her own business Seasons 4 Reasons and could be found offering her hand-crafted spice blends at various venues throughout San Diego County.
Though she faced significant health challenges and did not drive a motor vehicle, she would hop on the trolley or call a ride share service to get to any appointed destination. That self determination inspired her to write Being Stuck Is Not an Option (a book currently available on Amazon).
One quote from the book reads, “If you fall, make sure you get right back up ten times stronger and continue to push forward.”
Nisha left a lasting memory with everyone she encountered. We are diminished by her loss yet uplifted by having been in her presence. Private services were held for the family on July 18th.
Left to treasure Tranisha’s memory are her husband Kenio Miller; mother Dinah Pipkins; sisters Sheronna Dangerfield and Jenise Bonner Esomonu; brother Eric Pipkins; aunt Judy Johnson; uncles Roderick and Troy Johnson; six nieces, one nephew, and a host of cousins and friends.
